Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Tuesday said the administration is backing a reauthorization of the Great American Outdoors Act as Congress eyes action before next summer.
Burgum’s comments at the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable’s Outdoor Recreation Technology and Innovation Summit are a promising sign for congressional proponents of the bill as they work to renew it before America’s 250th birthday next year.
The law, parts of which are set to expire this month, funds the Legacy Restoration Fund and aims to reduce the deferred maintenance backlog in the country’s national parks.
Despite the law’s sunset, some projects funded by the GAOA will be able to continue.
