Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has realigned the leadership structure at the U.S. Park Police to give him greater authority over its operation.
The chief of the Park Police will now “report to and be directly supervised” by Burgum or a designee of his choosing, according to the order signed by Burgum on Aug. 25 but published this week.
The Park Police is among the federal law enforcement agencies that have been deployed in Washington as part of what President Donald Trump has billed as a crackdown on crime and homelessness.
Separately, the Interior Department announced Friday that Chief Jessica Taylor is retiring this month.
