The Interior Department has formally terminated six national advisory panels, including one designed to help the Bureau of Land Management implement the Biden-era public lands rule that has been a target of congressional Republicans.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Thursday ordered the elimination of the six national advisory panels, according to an internal memorandum obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News.

Burgum wrote in the order that the six panels “are unnecessary and have fulfilled the purposes for which they were established, and I accordingly terminate them to the maximum extent consistent with law.”

In addition to the Public Lands Rule Advisory Committee, Burgum also cut the Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names, established by Burgum’s predecessor, Deb Haaland, to change racially insensitive place names at federal sites.
