Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told a room full of state governors Friday that the Trump administration is determined to grow American energy to supply its allies and meet the rising demand from artificial intelligence.

“President Trump understands that energy is the foundation of American prosperity. It’s the foundation of affordability, and it’s the foundation of national security,” Burgum said in a speech at the National Governors Association’s winter meeting in Washington.

Burgum, the former governor of North Dakota and now chair of the White House’s recently assembled National Energy Dominance Council, said the administration has launched a “whole of government approach” to quickly advance U.S. energy — from production to transmission, transportation and exports.
