SACRAMENTO, California — California published a preliminary draft list Wednesday of companies that may have to report their carbon emissions and climate risk starting next year.
What happened: The California Air Resources Board listed the 4,159 companies that may have to comply with the rules in order to get voluntary feedback from companies that believe they are subject or believe they should get exemptions, according to its public posting.
CARB came up with the list based on California Secretary of State data on companies doing business in California, but it is not final.
“Each potentially-regulated entity remains responsible for compliance with statutory requirements, regardless of whether it was included in staff’s preliminary list or outreach,” CARB warns on its website.
