SACRAMENTO, California — State lawmakers on Saturday sent Gov. Gavin Newsom a bill that would ban nonstick cookware and other products with “forever chemicals.”

Democratic state Sen. Ben Allen’s SB 682 would prevent the sale by 2028 of certain products that contain the chemicals known as PFAS, including goods meant for children under 12, cleaning supplies, dental floss and food packaging.

The chemicals, which are slow to break down in nature and found in human bodies, food, water and other consumer products, could not be “intentionally added” to new cookware after 2030.
