Fresh off a trip to India, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson is bullish on selling a wide range of Canadian energy products to the country — from critical minerals such as uranium to oil and gas.

“Canada produces roughly 5 to 6 percent of the world’s oil today. We are selling less than 1 percent of our production to India,” Hodgson told reporters Friday from Toronto. “There’s a real opportunity for us.”

Hodgson’s trip was part of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s efforts to boost Canadian exports to non-American markets in the face of President Donald Trump’s trade war, which now includes a threat of a 50 percent levy on Canadian aircraft sales.
