Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his second set of major “nation-building” projects Thursday, the next step in his government’s attempt to fortify the Canadian economy against President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The new projects mark the latest installment in the plan Carney campaigned on in April — to “build, baby, build” Canada into an energy superpower that would make it less reliant on the U.S. and less vulnerable to Trump’s attacks.
“Many of Canada’s strengths, based on close trade ties with the U.S., have become our vulnerabilities,” Carney said in Terrace, British Columbia.
“We must change our strategy dramatically, and we’re doing that by drawing on our legacy, our legacy as builders, a legacy forged along by the people of British Columbia.”
