Colorado’s top negotiator on the Colorado River on Tuesday accused Arizona, California and Nevada officials of attempting to dip a ladle into supplies designated for other water users, as the states continue to spar over how to manage the drought-stricken waterway.

Becky Mitchell, Colorado’s Colorado River commissioner, said the seven states that share the waterway are continuing to negotiate a consensus deal on the river’s management, even as she detailed complaints over a plan recently put forth by Arizona, California and Nevada.

“Any consensus alternative cannot sacrifice one basin for the other,” Mitchell said during a webinar held by the Colorado Water Conservation Board and the state Division of Water Resources.
