The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will vote Wednesday to advance the nomination of Cameron Hamilton to helm the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The vote comes a month after Hamilton was peppered with questions from committee Democrats about the politicization of disaster aid. The White House has denied any difference in treatment between red and blue states when it comes to disbursing aid.
Committee ranking member Gary Peters (D-Mich.) cast doubt on whether Hamilton could ensure aid was distributed fairly. Committee Republicans generally supported the nominee.
“If confirmed, my focus will be to ensure that FEMA is objective, is fair and reasonable, follows the law, and is consistent in the approach to how we adjudicate claims and requests for disasters,” Hamilton told Peters at the June confirmation hearing.
