Oil and gas giant ConocoPhillips has hired a lobbying firm to advocate for overhauling federal permitting policies.
The firm S-3 Group said in a Thursday filing that it started working for ConocoPhillips in January on “issues related to permitting reform.” The oil company did not respond to a question for comment on its filing.
ConocoPhillips is a prominent member of the American Petroleum Institute, which has been one of the main drivers of the push in recent years for permitting changes.
“This isn’t just an oil and gas issue, it is an issue for every energy source and almost every industry,” API CEO Mike Sommers said last year when the group launched a major new campaign on permitting. “If we can’t build things again, there is no chance that this country is going to be able to beat China in the race for the AI future.”
