The White House could also seek to change a California monument’s name honoring the late labor leader but has yet to say whether it will do so.

Sen. John Cornyn plans to introduce legislation that would bar federal funding for sites associated with César Chávez, following recent allegations the late labor leader sexually abused women and girls.

The Texas Republican, who is locked in a primary runoff set for May 26, called the claims “horrifying,” referencing a New York Times report published last week detailing the allegations.

“Not one more dime of taxpayer money should go towards a monument glorifying a monster like Chavez,” Cornyn wrote in a post on X on Friday.
