A Missouri court has granted preliminary approval to a $7.25 billion settlement that would resolve claims that exposure to the popular Roundup weedkiller can lead to cancer.

The deal approved Wednesday by Missouri’s Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis eliminates uncertainty for Roundup exposure victims who await a Supreme Court ruling related to manufacturer Monsanto’s liability for health impacts stemming from glyphosate, the herbicide’s active ingredient, said an attorney for future claimants in the litigation.

“Today’s preliminary approval represents a significant milestone toward delivering meaningful relief and finality to tens of thousands of people across this country who have been impacted by [non-Hodgkin lymphoma] due to Roundup exposure,” said Eric Holland, owner of the Holland Law Firm.
