First came Starbase, renamed home to Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch facility. Could Cyber Beach be next?

In the latest example of landscape recasting, rocket-watching aficionados have asked a federal panel to rename a stretch of Texas beach from which they watch SpaceX blastoffs.

“There is a group of enthusiasts who come down for the SpaceX launches and refer to the beach area where we all meet as Cyber Beach,” said the petition filed by Josh Hazel, a resident of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He added that “we would love to have a formal declaration of this name as it is representative of the Rocket and Starship which launch just a few hundred yards away.”

The petition explained that the term “Cyber” is a “hat tip” to the Cybertruck, the sharp-angled electric vehicle manufactured by Musk’s firm Tesla with what the petition described as “the same material as the SpaceX Starship.”
