A senior House Democrat is warning of dire consequences as he criticizes former President Donald Trump for flouting “well-established norms” of presidential transitions.

Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, is accusing Trump and his running mate of attempting to circumvent federal ethics rules by rejecting government-provided presidential transition resources.

Trump’s campaign has lagged on signing formal transition agreements needed to receive federal resources, a move transition experts and Trump’s critics warn could impede a smooth handover of power if Trump wins the November presidential election.

“Breaking the precedent set by every other presidential candidate since 2010, you have rejected these resources and refused to commit to a smooth transition,” Raskin wrote Wednesday in a letter to Trump and his running mate, Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance.
