Democratic lawmakers are seeking to shield EPA’s new youth council from the incoming Trump administration.

On Thursday, Rep Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) introduced H.R. 10121, known as the “Youth Climate Leadership Act.” The bill would codify the National Environmental Youth Advisory Council, created a year ago by EPA Administrator Michael Regan, as well as stand up similar outside panels at the Agriculture, Commerce, Energy and Interior departments.

“The incoming administration has made it clear that saving our environment is not a priority,” Frost said in a statement.

The Florida Democrat, who is the youngest member of Congress, added, “The work the youth council and the EPA have done has changed our country for the better and put young people at the helm. We must act swiftly to do everything we can to protect the progress we have made.”
