Democrats renew probe of Trump oil meeting

Congressional Democrats are doubling down on their investigation into former President Donald Trump’s plea for $1 billion in campaign support from oil company leaders.

The Senate Budget and Finance chairs, as well as the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, sent a new round of letters to the American Petroleum Institute and eight oil companies demanding information about an April meeting where Trump made the request, according to people familiar with the situation.

Leaders from each of those companies and API attended the meeting, said the people, who were granted anonymity to speak candidly.

The companies’ responses to the initial May letters have varied, with some barely acknowledging them and others giving only general information about the event, the Democrats wrote in their latest missives, made public Tuesday.
