Democrats on Capitol Hill lashed out at the Trump administration this week for continuing to slow-walk flood control projects in blue states, and are warning that the alleged politicization of the Army Corps of Engineers’ infrastructure portfolio could blow up any chance for authorizing projects this year.
Adam Telle, the assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, faced tough questions at hearings Tuesday and Wednesday from lawmakers in both parties about Army Corps projects and policies that remain behind schedule.
Telle pitched a new agencywide initiative, “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,” as key to resolving delays as lawmakers work to draft the next Water Resources Development Act.
But Democrats said they’ve been unable to get answers about congressionally authorized projects in their jurisdictions that have been sidelined or canceled by the Trump administration.
