A top Department of Justice official is joining EPA’s enforcement office.
Alan Hanson starts Monday as the deputy assistant administrator for program operations in the agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, according to an internal email viewed by POLITICO’s E&E News. Hanson is joining EPA temporarily on detail from the Justice Department.
Hanson’s move comes as the Trump EPA refocuses its enforcement program while facing heavy scrutiny from environmental groups.
In the email sent Friday, Jeffrey Hall, head of EPA’s enforcement office, asked staff to join him in welcoming Hanson. “We look forward to his leadership and experience advancing our mission,” he said.
