TALLAHASSEE, Florida — While Gov. Ron DeSantis sidestepped the issue, state Rep. Kim Kendall said Tuesday she will work to close “loopholes” in state law that allowed a proposed land swap in St. Johns County to proceed within less than a week’s notice.
DeSantis, during a press conference in Tampa, deflected a question about the proposal, which was supported by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of State Lands.
Details: A state land council was scheduled to vote Wednesday on the proposed swap for 600 acres along the Guana River in northern St. Johns County before the request was withdrawn Monday.
“I’m not sure what you mean by DEP,” DeSantis said in Tampa when asked by a Tampa Bay Times reporter who was behind the deal. “It was not initiated by DEP. It was initiated by a private landowner.”
