TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday to bolster Florida’s agriculture industry and allow some conservation lands to be sold for farming.
DeSantis, in the last year of his term, framed the legislation as part of “meaningful results” his administration has delivered to rural communities in recent years.
“I think this package is really, really significant,” he said. “I think it shows that we have a strong commitment to not just agriculture, but our rural communities writ large.”
The bill directs the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to review whether state conservation lands acquired during or after January 2024 can be used for agriculture. Lands deemed suitable would be sold through conservation easements.
