A contracting firm that works with the Department of Energy put roughly 20 staffers in the Loan Programs Office on unpaid leave this week, following a stop-work order from DOE, former department staffers told POLITICO’s E&E News.
Meanwhile, a senior DOE staffer separately told E&E News that the department is aiming to “stop work on all support services” contracts.
The senior staffer said DOE leadership under President Donald Trump will “try to fire the vast majority of executive assistants and staff who manage internal approvals and external communications.”
Staffers who spoke to E&E News said many contractors are continuing to work at DOE. They were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
