The Energy Department is planning to scrap collective bargaining from its ranks, an effort that a prominent federal worker union says is illegal.

DOE on Friday said it would “terminate” its contact with the National Treasury Employees Union’s chapters 213 and 228, according to an internal memo obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News. NTEU represents federal employees in 38 agencies, including EPA as well as Energy and the Interior departments.

DOE did not respond to a request for comment.
