DOJ drops lawsuit alleging passenger train slowdowns

The Justice Department had sued Norfolk Southern, alleging the freight railroad had interfered with Amtrak passenger trains.

The Justice Department dropped its suit against Norfolk Southern over allegations that the freight railroad had slowed down passenger trains on Amtrak route.

The Justice Department and Norfolk Southern jointly filed paperwork Tuesday with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to dismiss the case.

The Justice Department sued Norfolk Southern last year, arguing that the company had interfered with Amtrak’s Crescent passenger service between New York and New Orleans.

Norfolk Southern said in a statement the two sides had reached an “amicable solution.”
