DOT chief re-ups request to talk with Maryland governor on bridge rebuild

DOT Secretary Sean Duffy reiterated Tuesday that he wants to speak with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore to discuss skyrocketing costs in rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

In a statement, Duffy said he looked forward to getting the bridge project “back on track with Governor Moore.”

The two haven’t directly spoken since POLITICO first reported in September that the cost of rebuilding the bridge had more than doubled, said a spokesperson for Moore, though their teams have been in contact.

Indeed, it’s the second time Duffy has asked to speak with Moore over the way the Democratic governor, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, has handled the effort to replace the span. The Key Bridge collapsed after being struck by a container ship in March 2024.
