Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy ramped up his department’s rhetoric on climate change and diversity, telling state and local governments the federal agency will not enforce any Biden-era regulations.
Duffy made the announcement in a July 2 letter to recipients of federal grants that was released Wednesday. DOT distributes hundreds of billions of dollars to states and local governments for roads, bridges, transit and other projects.
DOT will no longer enforce any provisions dealing with climate change; greenhouse gas emissions; racial justice; environmental justice; the Justice40 initiative; or diversity, equity and inclusion, the letter said.
President Donald Trump canceled most of those policies when he took office. Duffy himself issued orders directing federal funds to communities that enforce federal immigration policy and to communities with high rates of marriage and childbirth.
