The energy and environmental think tank Resources for the Future is elevating a senior staffer to become its next president and CEO, the organization’s board of directors announced Thursday.
Billy Pizer, an economist and former government official, is slated to start as the group’s next leader on May 1. Pizer has served as the nonprofit’s vice president of research and policy engagement since 2021.
He’ll take the helm of the organization from Richard Newell, who started in 2016 and announced in September that he planned to exit. Newell will stick around temporarily as a senior adviser to the new CEO, the group said.
“I’m moving into an organization that really is in great shape,” Pizer said. “In many ways, my vision for the future is to try to make us better and bigger” and hopefully to grow the think tank’s staff over time, he added.
