The environmental groups said the records show Florida had applied for and received assurances of funding despite federal officials saying in court documents there was no agreement.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Environmental groups highlighted new records for an appeals court this week that they said show the Trump administration agreed to fund a state immigration detention facility in the Everglades prior to court rulings in the case.

Details: The environmental groups accused the Trump administration of withholding documents prior to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals blocking a district court order to dismantle the facility known as Alligator Alcatraz.

The appeals court panel blocked the order, arguing a federal environmental law did not apply because there was no evidence the administration would fund the project. But it was just one of several concerns raised by the appeals court about the lower court ruling.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency in October confirmed Florida would receive money for the detention center. But that was after the 11th Circuit panel stayed the lower court ruling.
