The Trump administration said Monday it will allow the sale of higher-ethanol fuel this summer, continuing a temporary measure employed repeatedly by the Biden administration.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a news release that lifting seasonal restrictions again this summer would provide certainty for E15 fuel, which is 15 percent ethanol, delivering on a promise from President Donald Trump.

In providing the seasonal waiver, EPA again cited fuel supply shortages that tend to keep gasoline prices elevated; fuel blended with corn-based ethanol is a less expensive alternative and can provide some relief to consumers, according to the agency. This is the fourth consecutive year EPA has used an emergency waiver for E15.

E15 fuel can’t legally be sold in about half the country during the summer, based on current regulations, EPA said.
