EPA and the U.S. Agency for International Development have come together to address climate change and mounting pollution around the world.
The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday to formalize their partnership. EPA and USAID will work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote relief to disadvantaged communities as well as mitigate plastic waste and cut exposure to lead under the agreement.
The deal comes as EPA Administrator Michael Regan has spotlighted his agency’s international reach recently. This January, he traveled to Africa, meeting with government officials and activists, and signed a similar agreement with the Peace Corps last year.
Regan said in a statement EPA values its longstanding cooperation with USAID. He called Administrator Samantha Power “a true champion for environmental protection across the world.”
