EPA has created a data centers team as part of a broader — and highly unusual — effort to speed the regulatory approvals needed to further the Trump administration’s push for artificial intelligence dominance.
Air office staff are “available to consult with permit reviewing authorities and individual sources on a case-by-case basis to identify existing data, models, and tools to demonstrate compliance and, as appropriate, exercise discretion and flexibilities in the permitting processes,” according to a summary that then references the team as part of an online resource center unveiled Thursday.
The center includes several dozen links to potentially relevant EPA regulations and guidance, including a page on how applicants may “legally avoid” requirements under the agency’s permitting program for major sources of hazardous air pollutants.
“As EPA works to enact policy that helps make America the AI capital of the world, our new webpage provides an essential resource to those looking to understand the current regulations,” EPA air chief Aaron Szabo said in a news release, adding that the agency was responding to requests from developers, communities and tribes.
