Tony Irish left a decadeslong career at the Interior Department earlier this year after a fight with the Trump administration’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
Now on the outside, he’s using LinkedIn to offer detailed public critiques of the administration’s activities.
Irish, who joined Interior as a financial specialist in 2004, was an associate solicitor for the Division of General Law earlier this year when he made headlines for clashing with members of the Elon Musk-led downsizing team over access to a federal payroll system database.
Irish and two other career Interior officials were placed on leave in the spring. Irish fought an effort to oust him in April; the other two officials who were placed on leave accepted “deferred resignation” incentives to leave their jobs. Irish ultimately left the department in September, according to his LinkedIn profile.
