The Trump administration’s launch of a new brand for nationwide celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary is sparking questions on public spending from one environmental watchdog group.

Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, which is made up of current and retired federal employees, sent a letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Thursday asking that the agency disclose if it’s using public dollars earmarked for the Interior Department for anniversary events led by Freedom 250 and the White House.

Freedom 250 is the White House’s official brand, to be used by all executive agencies, to commemorate this year as the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The brand distinguishes Trump administration planning from the work of a long-standing congressional commission tasked with the job of planning events for this year and branded as “America250.”
