Federal agencies won’t open next Thursday in honor of former President Jimmy Carter’s death.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order Monday to close the government on Jan. 9, the same day as Carter’s state funeral, as “a mark of respect” for the deceased 39th president.

Federal employees should treat the day as off from work, but some may have to report for duty because of national security, defense “or other public need,” according to Biden’s order.
