The Trump administration has green-lighted a plan for an Arizona mine that could create a crater deeper than the Eiffel Tower is high on ground considered sacred by some Native Americans.

The Forest Service on Monday released a final environmental impact statement and draft record of decision for the proposed Resolution Copper mine, which is poised to be one of the largest copper mines in the nation.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins hailed the approval as a “prime example” of how the Trump administration is harnessing the nation’s natural resources while reducing reliance on foreign imports.

The project, however, is facing stiff local opposition. Its approval comes mere weeks after the Supreme Court spurned calls from some members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe for the nation’s highest court to intervene.
