Lawmakers are poised to ask about the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s future when they question Sen. Markwayne Mullin to become Homeland Security secretary.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will question the Oklahoma Republican on Wednesday. It then plans to vote on the nomination Thursday.
Mullin is largely expected to sail to confirmation. His appointment came after President Donald Trump ousted Kristi Noem, who had grown increasingly unpopular among Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Critics slammed Noem for her immigration policies and her management of FEMA. North Carolina’s senators in particular had criticized her for a slow distribution of recovery grants after Hurricane Helene.
