FERC will consider two new reliability standards proposed by the North American Electric Reliability Corp. during its regularly scheduled monthly open meeting next week.
One of the standards, first proposed by NERC at the beginning of the year, would require utilities to add more protections to their communication systems to avoid cybersecurity breaches that could give hackers access to sensitive communication regarding the bulk power system.
The other comes from a February FERC directive asking the reliability coordinator to come up with a new process for collecting data on cold-weather events and to submit an annual filing analyzing that data.
The commission will also address whether to partially transfer the ownership of two liquefaction trains under the Rio Grande liquefied natural gas terminal. The transfer is opposed by Public Citizen, which argues there are discrepancies in the ownership structures that FERC should address.
