‘Fired up’: Federal union takes on Trump

A prominent federal worker union is gearing up for this year’s midterm elections as it battles the Trump administration’s efforts to downsize and realign government.

The National Treasury Employees Union held its annual legislative conference in Washington this week. Since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the union’s members have faced shutdowns, layoffs and new regulations that could strip them of civil service protections.

Yet, NTEU President Doreen Greenwald said she has seen a surge in opposition energy after the administration’s crackdown on the federal workforce, exemplified by tech mogul Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency.

“That has really fired up federal employees because they care about their mission, they care about serving the American people, and they didn’t take that lightly,” Greenwald told reporters Tuesday.
