The petition claims the Biden administration violated federal requirements to shield areas used by fisheries from offshore wind development.

A fishing industry trade group is bringing its fight against the Biden administration’s approval of an New England offshore wind energy project to the nation’s highest bench.

The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) announced Monday that it had filed a Supreme Court petition asking the justices to find that federal law required the Interior Department to ensure greater protections for fisheries when it considered authorizing Vineyard Wind 1 off the Massachusetts coast.

The Biden administration’s interpretation of its authority, which was upheld last December by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, helped clear the way not only for Vineyard Wind but also for thousands of wind turbines in the Atlantic Ocean, the trade group said.
