TALLAHASSEE, Florida — The state House voted Wednesday to amend and return to the Florida Senate a bill calling for the increased regulation of data centers.

Details: The Senate bill was amended to eliminate public notification requirements and to require investor-owned utilities to submit proposed new rates for data centers to state regulators.

State Rep. Philip Wayne “Griff” Griffitts Jr. (R-Panama City) told reporters the bill was revised after the White House last week issued a “ratepayer protection pledge” with tech giants to shield other utility customers from the cost of data centers.

“We are trying to mirror that as best we can so we line up with the White House,” Griffitts said.
