TALLAHASSEE, Florida — The Public Service Commission on Thursday approved a $9.14 monthly increase for Tampa Electric Co. residential customers.
The commission approved new rates unanimously with little discussion, two weeks after voting to cut TECO’s three-year, $445.6 million rate hike request by one-third. The vote followed a weeklong legal hearing in August in the bitter fight.
“After this lengthy process, we are pleased to offer customers some certainty,” TECO spokesperson Cherie Jacobs said following the commission meeting.
Public Counsel Walt Trierweiler, whose office represents utility customers in rate cases and previously called the TECO request a “callous” effort to save TECO’s Canadian parent company, told POLITICO Thursday his office will have to see the final commission order before deciding whether to appeal the vote.
