A shakeup in hiring continues to ripple through the Forest Service as the agency braces for uncertain funding in the fiscal year that begins Oct.1.

Officials have told employees that hiring will be suspended for temporary and seasonal positions nationwide into fiscal 2025, following the agency’s decision to end current assignments as of Sept. 30, the last day of fiscal 2024.

In addition, officials said, job vacancies throughout the agency will be filled mainly with people who already work for the Forest Service, shutting off hiring from other federal agencies or from outside the government.
