A GOP energy policy expert with ties to the White House said this week that states with clean energy goals should expect pressure from the Trump administration to align policies with President Donald Trump’s fossil fuel agenda.
Michael Catanzaro, Trump’s former White House energy adviser, told state utility regulators Monday that he expects Trump to use emergency authority to push through oil and gas permits and for the pipelines and power plants he wants built.
“They’re going to have to change,” said Catanzaro, chief executive of CGCN Group, referring to mostly Democratic states with targets for transitioning to carbon-free energy, citing “the realities of what we’re facing with the situation on the grid.”
U.S. power supplies are tightening as the tech industry demands record amounts of electricity. “The landscape has changed so quickly and so dramatically, it’s back to the drawing board,” Catanzaro said.
