GOP may expand Senate victory as House results trickle in

The Republican Senate majority could grow further depending on the outcome of close races. The House may take days to settle.

Election returns continued to roll in from congressional races Wednesday, though control of the House is still unknown.

The Associated Press predicted Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) would keep her seat. But Republicans, estimated to have 52 seats after flipping three, could nab more.

“We certainly already know we’re going to be in the majority, and we’re hopeful that might grow some,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is giving up his leadership post, told reporters Wednesday morning.

Republicans were “focusing on the places where we had the best chance to win,” he added, “and I think the results pretty much prove we made a lot of wise decisions.”
