The Energy secretary also told the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting that she would be open to a role in a Harris administration.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm touted booming U.S. clean energy production Tuesday at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York City, arguing that record investment in the sector is putting the country on track to removing carbon from its economy by midcentury.

A “half a trillion dollars” has been invested in American clean energy, she said, since the passage of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law the year before.

That amounts to over 800 new or expanded factory projects, she said, adding that the flow of investment to underdeveloped areas is “repairing the world.”

Granholm said 86 percent of that investment is “going to counties that have below-average weekly wages.” That appears to be an increasing trend. Late last year, the Treasury Department said 81 percent of clean energy investment was going to those counties.
