Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee are blasting Chair Sheldon Whitehouse, calling him “out of line” while mocking his continued efforts to make climate change a primary focus of the panel’s work this Congress.

In a scathing letter to the Rhode Island Democrat, ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and nearly every other Republican on the committee said Whitehouse was ignoring “fiscal alarm bells.”

Instead, they said he was “preening for the cameras” while inviting what they say are nonexpert witnesses — including an Olympic skier — to deliver “a barrage of unsubstantiated hyperbole” about climate issues.

“Your accusations that anyone who does not share your faith in climate doomsday predictions is beholden to fossil fuel overlords or a climate change denier are out of line,” the Republicans wrote.
