Environmentalists released a tranche of internal climate change emails Thursday as they argued the newly disclosed records should upend a Trump administration effort to overturn a key climate policy.
The Environmental Defense Fund and the Union of Concerned Scientists released hundreds of pages of documents Thursday obtained in litigation against the Trump administration.
Those emails — released in batch one, batch two and batch three — were disclosed as part of an ongoing lawsuit the nonprofits filed against the Energy Department alleging that a team of advisers dubbed the Climate Working Group had operated in secret and violated federal disclosure laws.
In the wake of the disclosure of those emails, which offer a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes discussions of the Climate Working Group, environmentalists are urging EPA to withdraw its plans to repeal the Obama-era endangerment finding, a determination that sets the stage for federal climate regulations. A final rule to overturn that determination is expected to come from the Trump administration any day now.
