Ten organizations say the government shutdown will interfere with their ability to engage with the federal agency.

A coalition of 10 conservation groups wants more time to comment on the Trump administration’s proposal to revoke President Joe Biden’s public lands rule, saying a 90-day extension is needed due to the federal government shutdown.

The groups, in a letter sent Thursday to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, write that they need more time to get questions answered and to comment on the proposal announced last month.

The Bureau of Land Management moved to rescind the Biden administration’s conservation and landscape health rule — commonly referred to as the public lands rule — that made conservation as much of a priority on federal rangelands as energy development or recreation.

The proposal to rescind the rule is currently open for a 60-day public comment period, running through Nov. 10.
