Interior Secretary Deb Haaland is on a campaign blitz for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, promoting get-out-the-vote efforts while also touting the vice president’s commitment to tribal relations.
In a spate of recent appearances beginning with her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last month, Haaland has popped up at the Minnesota State Fair and addressed canvassers in Wisconsin and veterans in Arizona.
Haaland — whose efforts require her to speak in her personal capacity to avoid triggering the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from participating in political events using government resources or titles — has also reactivated long-dormant social media accounts, while joining the video platform TikTok under the handle @debhaalandnm, reflecting her Southwestern roots in New Mexico.
“This country is filled with beauty and sacred places. The choice we make this election will determine the future of treasured landscapes that are part of our shared heritage,” Haaland wrote in a recent post on the social media website X, along with a photo of herself against the backdrop of the sandstone buttes of Monument Valley in Arizona. “Learn how you can make your voice heard: http://iwillvote.com.”
