Former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s book published this week recalls her 2021 run in the Boston Marathon and her work to document the federal government’s mistreatment of Native American children.
“A Voice Like Mine” discusses Haaland’s unsuccessful 2014 campaign to be New Mexico’s lieutenant governor, her 2015 to 2017 leadership of the New Mexico Democratic Party, her time in the House from 2019 to 2021 and leading the Interior Department from 2021 to 2025. She’s currently the Democratic nominee for New Mexico governor.
The book is a contrast with political tell-alls from authors like former first lady Jill Biden, former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and former national security adviser John Bolton.
Jonathan Capehart of MSNOW asked Haaland during a Washington event about the book Wednesday why she didn’t “go scorched earth” or “settle some scores,” as is sometimes the tradition in political books.
